Excelsius Finance was founded by Mario Matthys in March 2014.
Mario graduated as Master in Commercial Sciences at VLEKHO in 1989. He joined KPMG as junior auditor in September 1989, crossing through different roles to end up as consolidation audit specialist. In 2002 Mario accepted the offer from Interbrew to join their consolidation department as Manager Legal consolidation. After extensive M&A activity, which led to the creation of the AB InBev Group, Mario moved on to the role of Group Controller.
As global responsible for the internal (management) and external reporting of the ABI group, Mario headed the Consolidation and reporting team for many years with the following responsibilities:
- Organization and review of the consolidation of the group (>450 legal entities)
- Intercompany reconciliation and reporting processes
- IFRS FY and HY Financial Statements (IFRS)
- Quarterly press releases
- Forecast cycle: calendarized budgets, LE’s, 3YP…
- Leading the consolidation team in the Business Shared Service Center in Brazil
In 2014, after the creation of a functional management office for ABI in New York, Mario created Excelsius Finance. At the same time Excelsius Finance started working for Trifinance Belgium as the Expert Practice Leader of Corporate Reporting within the CFO Services department.
He mainly led projects in the following domains:

- IFRS Annual reports and disclosure management
- IFRS conversions from local GAAP
- IFRS adoption of new standards
- Consolidation services
- Group controller/CFO coach
- Cash flow: design of reports and mapping
- Member of Steerco in reporting projects
- M&A: consolidation redesign and support
- M&A: purchase price allocation (IFRS 3)
- Global chart of accounts design
- Design of IFRS accounting and reporting manual
- Working capital tracking and monitoring
Excelsius Finance also developed some training platforms, of which IFRS and Consolidation training are the most followed ones.
Excelsius Finance continues to use its expertise in pragmatic consulting.
